G. Sureshkumar
Founder, Revathy Kalamandirr
Sureshkumar’s story is nothing short of cinematic. As a teenager with dreams far bigger than his means, he boarded a train with friends and no money—chasing only one thing: a future in cinema. Born into an educated family, his heart always belonged to the silver screen. Even as a child, he would sneak out and sell groceries from home just to afford movie tickets. His passion found its first spark when an uncle gifted him a 8mm camera. One of his earliest shots? His classmate and future superstar Mohanlal ascending the stairs at home.
Though he completed a Bachelor’s in Commerce from Kerala University, Sureshkumar dropped out of law school to pursue his true calling. While he aspired to become a cinematographer, destiny led him to production. His career began as an Assistant Director on Thiranottam (1978). But when no one agreed to fund the film, Sureshkumar stepped up and produced it himself—at just 18.
Despite initial failures and financial setbacks, he persevered. It was his father, Dr. Prof. M. Gopinathan Nair, who reignited his courage, encouraging him to try once more. That encouragement became the foundation of Revathy Kalamandirr, a banner now cherished by generations of Malayalam cinema lovers.
Today, G. Sureshkumar has produced 32 feature films, making him one of the most respected producers in the Malayalam film industry. His contributions go beyond cinema:
